Ÿ Course description:

Course book with 10 audio CDs provides the main part of teaching materials, divided into 4 main parts: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing, plus 1
Practice Test. The course book Developing Skills for the TOEFL iBT (Intermediate) provides input in reading, listening, speaking and writing tasks as well.
Every part contains essential lessons, skills and tips for more efficient learning and frequent opportunities for personalization.

Ÿ Course aims:

The course aims to:

- provide balanced coverage of the four skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

- challenge learners to become aware of language in context.

- build confidence with clear, step-by-step language presentations and controlled practice leading to free and creative language use.

Ÿ Prerequisite:

This course will be followed by one more English course, English Composition 1, in order to get the objectives of the English curriculum at UIT.

5. Course requirements
:

Ÿ Assignments: Exercises are in corresponding sections of the required book.

Ÿ Class attendance/participation: Evaluated by checking in the Attendance Book

Ÿ Final Examination: Students are tested on four skills Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing.

7. Academic integrity Policies
:

- Student should attend in all English classes in the course in order to gain assignments and class participation scores.

- Be punctual to come and leave the class.

- Maximum cancellation time per semester is 6 hours per class.

9. Comments and notes
:

Ÿ Make-up: Make-up classes are officially accepted after the Make-up forms are signed by all of the students in the class and directly send to the
Registrars.

Ÿ Preparation for Class: It is expected that the students read related chapter in textbook and lecture noted before each class. This will help to
capture the topics presented and discussed during class hours.

Ÿ Use of Class Time: Class time will be used mainly for lectures and discussions. A small part of class hours is used for testing. House works will
be discussed on individual basis.

Ÿ Class Attendance: Due to the broad range of topics discussed throughout the course and their inter-relationship, it is requested that the students
should attend the class regularly.

Ÿ Incomplete Grade: A grade of “I” (Incomplete) will be administered only under extreme, verifiable “emergency” situation where the student is
unable to complete some portion of the course work due to circumstances beyond his/her control PROVIDED THE STUDENT IS PASSING THE COURSE.

Ÿ Assignment Requirement: Assignments of each session must be submitted before the next session begins.
